Corinna, a young girl, suffers a grade-2 splenic laceration from an MVA. The injury becomes life-threatening due to a rare hemolytic transfusion reaction requiring an extensive search for compatible blood from her father. She develops multiorgan failure including renal shutdown, seizures, and coma despite successful bloodless surgery.

Corinna develops a severe hemolytic reaction to type-specific blood transfusion due to rare antibodies (Vel and Lan antigens). Her body destroys transfused red blood cells, dropping her crit dangerously and making her one-in-50-million difficult to match, requiring extensive donor search.
