Three-year-old child presented with traumatic brain injury after being violently shaken and having his head slammed against a wall by his father. Patient initially breathing but deteriorated with posturing, seizures, bradycardia, hypertension (Cushing's triad), and bilaterally blown pupils indicating severe brain herniation. Despite aggressive resuscitation including mannitol, Dilantin, and consideration of burr holes, the patient went into PEA arrest and died.

Psychiatry diagnoses him as 'gravely disabled' and places him on 72-hour psychiatric hold. Episode attributed to severe sleep deprivation combined with PTSD from recent violent assault.
