Also known as: HSP
Julia presents with abdominal pain, arrhythmia, and progressive kidney failure. The diagnosis is ultimately revealed when House discovers oral lesions after learning she was stung by a bee a month prior. The systemic vasculitis caused lesions throughout her body including her intestines (leading to intussusception), heart, and kidneys.
Also known as: Telescoping bowel
Julia's intestine folded in on itself, cutting off blood flow. This was surgically repaired and led the team to search for abdominal cancer as the underlying cause. The intussusception turned out to be a complication of her HSP rather than cancer.
Also known as: Blood clot in lung
A V/Q scan confirmed a clot in Julia's lung, initially leading the team to suspect a clotting disorder. This was later understood as part of the HSP vasculitis affecting multiple organ systems.
