A 35-year-old virgin newlywed presents unable to consummate her marriage due to involuntary muscle spasms preventing vaginal penetration. The vaginismus is discovered to be caused by vulvar vestibulitis from chronic yeast infections creating hypersensitive nerve endings. Treatment involves trigger point injections and guided visualization therapy.

Inflammation of the vulvar vestibule caused by chronic yeast infections, making nerve endings extraordinarily sensitive to pain and triggering the vaginismus. Treated with lidocaine and steroid trigger point injections.
