Tess is pregnant with triplets, two of whom share blood vessels causing one baby's heart to fail from too much blood while the other is starved. Addison performs laser surgery to separate the blood supplies, but complications arise when Tess has a hyperthermic reaction during the first attempt. One healthy baby dies, but Addison successfully completes the procedure under local anesthesia to save the remaining two affected babies.
