Dr. Cox's intern requests a surgical consult for Mr. Carney's peripheral arterial disease. Dr. Turk recommends a fem-pop (femoral-popliteal) bypass surgery despite Cox's concerns that the elderly, frail patient may not survive the procedure. Cox bets $20 the patient will die, but the surgery is successful.
